Dried citrus rinds and preserved citrus have long been used as spices. Shoot, I am currently drinking a vodka and tonic with a twist of lime! I have some dried orange rind and lemon rind in my larder....what kind of citrus do you have lurking about? Dried or fresh rinds, or preserved works for this month's challenge. I want to hear about your latest creation. Post your recipe featuring citrus starting Feb. 12...deadline is February 18. I will post a round up of your work here on February 23. Can't wait to see what you come up with.....for a complete list of who is participating in the Spice Rack Challenge and what it entails....click on the tab above.
This is awesome, because there were these citrus and rosemary cookies I wanted to make last time, but just didn't have the time. Now I can!
ReplyDeleteOk, my first comment was "citris? a spice" then I read the next sentence. Ok, I get it. Do you think candied peels would count or is that too much? We love them!
ReplyDeleteYay! Citrus! Should be good!
ReplyDeleteI think January and February should get married and make lots of delicious little gourmet babies. Can't wait to see what everybody cooks up!
ReplyDeleteWish I was drinking a vodka tonic with a twist right now...!
ReplyDeleteDid someone say vodka tonic? 'cuz that's all I heard. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have a couple different types of dried citrus zest that have been languishing on my spice shelf. I guess I can no longer procrastinate about finding something to do with them.
Well, shoot, the last post I made before my months-long hiatus was homemade limoncello...talk about ideal. However, I already know exactly what I'm going to make, and it's not more limoncello. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is not citrus as a spice / seasoning, but one of my favorite January pick-me-ups is to make a citrus fruit salad: grapefruit, oranges, clementines - or whatever is on hand - and (new this year!) pomengranate seeds.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a really mild pick-me-up in comparison to the vodka tonic, though...
Thanks for picking my suggestion! I suggested it so that maybe people could discover the magic of dried limes, which are a staple of Iranian/Persian food. Check 'em out! These puppies aren't pretty to look at, but they really pack a delicious wallop of citrus and fermented tang. I'm hoping to engage in a Persian cook-fest this weekend, and share the results in my next Spice Rack Challenge post! Good luck everyone!
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to get the link to work this month. Here is my post:

For some reason I had the 21st in my head as the deadline, so here is my post:
